"Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14)

Living in peace with others can be challenging, especially in recovery, where rebuilding relationships is part of the journey. Yet, it is a pursuit that leads to deeper connections and a life that reflects God's love. If we neglect this, it's easy to fall back into old patterns—living in conflict, driven by the need to be understood rather than seeking to understand others.

With the strength of God's Spirit, we have a choice today in how we live. As we choose to seek peace with others, we will see love become the foundation of our interactions. This not only strengthens our faith but also shifts our focus from being understood to truly understanding others. We will also find ourselves growing in empathy and consideration for different perspectives. Humility and patience will no longer be strangers, and our connections will expand from a small circle of friends into a broader community. Seeking peace will not only help us repair damaged relationships but will also deepen our relationship with Jesus as we seek to grow in holiness, reflecting God's glory in our daily lives.

Do you intentionally strive to live in peace with others? Where do you find success in this, and where do you struggle?

Lord Jesus, grant me the strength to live in peace with those around me and to pursue holiness. Help me to be set apart for your glory as I serve you and others today. In your precious name, I pray. Amen.

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8)

Jesus tells us that those who are pure in heart are blessed and shall see God. To have a pure heart implies that, by nature, hearts are impure—burdened by rust, decay, and desperately in need of cleansing. Every decision and interaction is filtered through the lens of this decayed heart, one that cries out for renewal and transformation.

This cleansing comes through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, as one continuously runs to the cross, finding nourishment for the soul. It is where impurities of this world are removed, breaking the stone encasing hearts and providing a heart of flesh. A newness of life is given, where the desire is to see the face of the Almighty, who makes hearts holy through the work of the Son, Jesus Christ. We are made clean instantly through the redemptive work of the cross and are continuously refined until the day we can sing, “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise” (Rev 5:12), in eternity.

How have you changed since committing your life to the Lord? In what areas are you being refined right now?

Lord in heaven, thank you for caring so deeply that you continually work in hearts, refining them to the praise of your glory. Give a heart of flesh, removing the heart of stone, so that love for you and others may abound. Glory to you. In Jesus' name, Amen.

"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

Many of us can look back on our past and see a pattern of setbacks and misunderstandings. It often felt like we just couldn’t catch a break, as if bad luck was following us wherever we went. In reality, much of this was the result of our own poor decisions and misguided attempts to solve our problems on our own. We also felt misunderstood, convinced that others simply couldn’t grasp what we were going through. Even when someone offered guidance, we’d often respond with, “Yeah, but my situation is a little different,” or something to that effect.

Yet, despite all the mistakes we’ve made and the wrong turns we’ve taken, God has the power to transform those experiences for our good and his glory. He is fully sovereign over everything. In fact, not a single molecule in the universe exists outside of his control. Your choices may have led you to a place of despair, but it was there that you called out to Him. God met you at your lowest so that, in him, you could rise to your highest. Take heart—there is no mistake too great for him to use for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Allow him to use your failures as stepping stones into the life he has called you to live and the purpose he has designed for you.

What mistakes have you made that you thought were beyond God’s redemption? Can you recall any instances where God turned your mistakes into something good in your life?

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me despite all my failures. You called me when I was lost, and you adopted me as your child. Though I have made many mistakes, you have taken them and used them for good, all for your glory. Continue to strengthen and sustain me through your goodness and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
